Veneers are thin, tooth-colored porcelain covers that attach to the front surfaces of your teeth. They are shaped and contoured to fit over your natural tooth to correct a cosmetic concern.
Veneers can help if your teeth are:
The color of your veneers is matched to your surrounding teeth, giving you a natural, attractive smile that helps you feel confident.
Veneers typically require a two-step process. During your first appointment, the Whittier Dental Center team consults with you about your appearance goals. You also determine what shape, size, and color you want for your veneers.
Before preparing your teeth for your veneers, you receive an anesthetic to numb the area if requested. Your dentsit then shaves down a small amount of your tooth’s surface to make space for the veneer to fit on top.
Once your dentist shaves down the surface of your teeth, he or she takes an impression of them and sends them to a lab where dental technicians create your customized veneers. You wear temporary veneers until your permanent ones are ready.
Your second visit involves removing your temporary veneer, cleaning your tooth’s surface, and applying your permanent veneer with a strong dental adhesive.
Your new veneers match the neighboring teeth for a seamless appearance and a beautiful smile.
To take care of your veneers, treat them just like you do your natural teeth. Brush at least two times a day, floss at least once a day, and continue your regular teeth cleanings at Whittier Dental Center every six months.
To avoid chipping or damaging your veneers, don’t chew on ice or hard candy. To keep your veneers free from discoloration, stay away from foods and beverages that can cause staining, like berries, coffee, and red wine.
Your veneers can last 10-15 years and, in many cases, even longer if you practice good oral hygiene habits.
